Location: Somerset, NJ

Whitman is looking to hire an Electrical Engineer with 5 to 7 years of experience to work in our Somerset, New Jersey office.  Whitman offers a robust work-from-home policy, as long as productivity and communication are maintained.  The successful candidate should have design experience with lighting and power systems, solar power design, and fire alarm systems, related to residential, public, commercial, and industrial projects for both new construction and renovation projects.

The candidate shall be expected to perform field visits, prepare load calculations (with or without software), electrical equipment selections, layout and design of electrical systems in AutoCAD, review shop drawings, and attend meetings with contractors.  The selected candidate will receive on the job-related training, under supervision of a Senior Electrical Engineer.

Responsibilities: 

  • Design lighting, power, and fire alarm systems related to residential, public, commercial, and industrial projects for both new construction and renovation.
  • Electrical short circuit calculations, voltage drop calculations, load calculations (with or without software), and conductor / raceway sizing.
  • Perform code review, site visits, attend site meetings and punch lists.
  • Complete projects by guiding and coordinating efforts of electrical project team members.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Work directly and coordinate with Building Department officials as may be required for plan approval.
  • Design lighting fixture layouts, fixture specifications, schedules, and lighting controls.
  • Coordinate with electrical utility companies as may be required to coordinate new services and upgrade existing electrical services.
  • Review shop drawings and attend meetings with contractors.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, with 5 to 7 years of professional experience.
  • Experience in designing and developing MEP projects from concept to completion.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations, specify, size, and layout power and lighting systems.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines.
  • EIT registration is preferred, but not required.
  • Being LEED accredited is a plus, but not required.
  • Knowledge of electrical and building codes and standards, including: National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA-72, Energy Code, and International Building Code (IBC), including modifications by local AHJ.
  • Ability to design electrical construction documents using AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD required.
  • REVIT knowledge and experience is a plus, but not required.
