Location: Somerset, NJ

Whitman is looking to hire a Senior Electrical Engineer with 7 to 10 years of experience to work in our Somerset, NJ office. The successful candidate should have design experience with lighting and power systems, solar power design and fire alarm systems, related to residential, public, commercial and industrial projects for both new construction and renovations projects.

The candidate shall be expected to perform field visits, prepare load calculations (with or without software), electrical equipment selections, layout and design of electrical systems in AutoCAD, review shop drawings and attend meetings with contractors.

Professional Engineering (PE) license is a plus. AutoCAD proficiency is a requirement.

Responsibilities:

  • Write proposals, attend client meetings, prepare invoices and perform business development activities.
  • Serve as a project manager/coordinator/mentor for staff and other electrical engineers.
  • Perform detailed electrical engineering calculations, specify size and layout of power and lighting systems.
  • Supervise electrical designers and perform QA/QC analysis for construction documents.
  • Coordinate project tasks with other disciplines to ensure compliance with specifications, codes and customer requirements.
  • Develop project schedule for projects for all areas of electrical distribution and low voltage systems.
  • Perform field surveys to document the existing conditions for electrical and fire alarm systems.
  • Inspect completed MEP installations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with American and international design standards.
  • Provide construction administration to various project types and sizes.
  • Be available to travel for work, approximately 3 to 5 days per month usually in the Northeast U.S.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology with 7-10 years of project experience.
  • Strong building design engineering background in all phases of design and construction.
  • Experience with other building systems (HVAC, plumbing and fire protection) is a plus.
  • Must be experienced with industry electrical and building codes and standards, including: National Electrical NEC, NFPA-72, Energy Code, and International Building Code (IBC), including modifications by local AHJ.
  • Ability to meet fast-paced deadlines while maintaining quality design.
  • Must be capable of working individually and within a multi-discipline environment.
  • Must have strong research, documentation, recording keeping and technical writing skills.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills to manage internal and external relationships.
  • Must have experience in designing and developing MEP projects from concept to completion.
  • Must be proficient in the use of AutoCAD and have a working knowledge and proficiency of Revit and BIM.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration in the states of New Jersey, New York and/or Pennsylvania is a plus.
