Overview

Whitman provided environmental services for the historic Roebling Complex Block 3 site located in Trenton, New Jersey.  Responsibilities included conducting all field sampling and site investigation work, tank removal, identification of building related hazardous materials, overseeing building demolition, hazardous soil excavation and ex-situ remediation, and site-wide capping.

Successful Soil Remedial Investigations and Remedial Actions on a portion of the former industrial site led to issuance of a Response Action Outcome (RAO)  by Whitman’s Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP).  This enabled the first phase of the Block 3 redevelopment to be completed: “Roebling Lofts”.

The final phase of soil remediation on the site has been completed and the final RAO for Block 3 will be issued.  In recent years, additional phases of redevelopment have begun including site re-grading and luxury office space build-out.  Now that site remediation is complete, the full redevelopment vision for Block 3 can be realized, enhancing the community with an upscale mixed-use residential, commercial and retail hub.

The public agencies involved in this project include the City of Trenton, Mercer County, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and the USEPA.
