Overview

Whitman conducted a limited environmental (hazardous materials) assessment on a two-story, 150,000 square foot warehouse in Newark, New Jersey. Since the warehouse had been damaged by years of severe weather and non-use, both the warehouse and several adjoining structures were slated for demolition so that a brand-new facility could be constructed in its place.

The damaged warehouse and ancillary buildings contained various types of Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) throughout its interior, in which Whitman lead an Asbestos Abatement project to remove said materials.

Due to the building’s poor condition, the abatement of the ACM and the building’s demolition were required to be performed simultaneously using specialty techniques. As the Engineer of Record for the demolition of the former warehouse facility, Whitman prepared an air monitoring program involving inspections, monitoring for particulates, and air sampling for asbestos during the demolition.
