Overview
Whitman provided professional fire protection, mechanical and electrical engineering design services at three schools within the Weehawken Township School District: Weehawken High School (136,256 ft2), Theodore Roosevelt School (61,512 ft2) and Daniel Webster Elementary School (139,941 ft2). Whitman performed an existing building system assessment to evaluate design requirements.
Whitman was retained to complete an entire fire alarm system replacement for all three Weehawken schools. The design included new front-end systems and new fire alarm devices located according to the Code review completed as part of this effort.
Whitman also completed the design for new security vestibules at the three schools. The existing adjacent mechanical and electrical systems were modified to serve the new spaces.
Lastly, Whitman provided the engineering design for HVAC upgrades for all three schools. The retrofit included design for variable refrigerant flow (VRF) equipment, energy recovery units, air handling units, and bipolar ionization.
