Overview

Whitman was retained by a former industrial facility in Newark to complete a Preliminary Assessment (PA) to prepare for sale and comply with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Industrial Site Recovery Act (ISRA). The PA needed to be conducted in an expedited timeframe as the client needed to know potential Areas of Concern (AOCs) prior to closing on the sale. The results of the Preliminary Assessment identified potential Underground Storage Tanks (USTs), and the need to conduct a Site Investigation (SI). Whitman conducted the SI and UST removals, and investigations are ongoing.

Whitman was also able to assist the client with the decommissioning of the PCB-contaminated transformers on site. Additionally, Whitman drained and disposed of the PCB-containing oil, as well as assisted with waste disposal that other contractors generated on site. In the future, Whitman will also assist with the planned demolition of the building and provide an asbestos survey to assure compliance during site development.

This project is a clear example of the diverse services that Whitman can provide clients in a timely and cost effective manner.
