Whitman is looking to hire an Environmental Technician with 0 to 3 years of experience to join our Somerset, New Jersey office. The successful candidate will receive on-the-job training.
Responsibilities:
- Various hands-on laborer activities supporting waste management, compliance, and environmental field services activities.
- Safely operate company and rental vehicles (e.g., cargo van, Penske 16-ft cabover truck with liftgate, Penske 26-ft truck, etc.) while traveling to various project sites. Must comply with all traffic laws and company safety regulations.
- Completion of data reports, training activities, proposals, and special projects for the Environmental, Health & Safety division.
- Perform Community Right-to-Know surveys.
- Attend courses to achieve AHERA Building Inspector certification and subsequent Asbestos Safety Technician courses/tests. Whitman will pay for training/testing costs associated with the certifications.
- Attend courses to achieve NJDOH certification for lead-based paint inspections. Whitman will pay for training/testing costs associated with the certifications.
- Attend courses to become proficient in indoor air sampling for mold, dust, and other contaminants. Whitman will pay for training/testing costs associated with the certifications.
- Perform asbestos, lead, mold, and indoor surveys on residential, commercial, and public buildings.
- Perform project monitoring activities for Asbestos abatement and other indoor air quality projects.
- Perform site Environmental, Health & Safety and Hazardous/Non-Hazardous Waste audits.
- Obtain additional Industrial Hygiene certifications/licenses and field certifications as needed.
- Collection of environmental samples including but not limited to drinking water, soil, groundwater, indoor and sub-slab air, and sediment samples.
- Perform recordkeeping associated with projects. Recordkeeping will include, but not be limited to, recording daily events in a logbook, tabulating site air and bulk sampling results, maintaining the laboratory Chain of Custody, and assisting the Project Manager in preparing reports.
- May need to work occasional weekends and nights to meet the needs of our clients. At times, less than 24 hours’ notice is required for emergency callouts.
Requirements:
- Associate degree in Environmental Science or related field.
- 0 to 3 years of experience in the environmental consulting industry.
- Demonstrates a positive attitude and eagerness to learn and be trained.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Clean motor vehicle driving record.
- Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the entire body. This will include climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, carrying, and stooping.
- Must be able to work in all outdoor weather conditions.
- Must be able to work some weekends and at night, when needed.
Salary Range: $60,000 to $65,000 annually – commensurate with experience
