Important Reminder:

New Jersey’s Single-Use Bag Ban law goes into effect today!

Starting today, May 4th, New Jersey grocery stores, food service businesses and other retail stores are prohibited from providing or selling single-use plastic carryout bags and polystyrene foam food service products.

Retail, non-food, and smaller grocery stores can still provide paper bags. However, grocery stores equal to or larger than 2,500 square feet are banned from providing or selling both plastic and paper bags, and may only provide or sell reusable carryout bags.

Governor Phil Murphy and the New Jersey Legislature enacted the bag ban law in November 2020, and it is considered the strictest and most progressive in the country in an effort to reduce a major pollutant – plastics – and protect the environment.

So don’t forget to grab your reusable bags on your way to the store and always keep them handy!
