It is always good practice to routinely check your HVAC system before every heating and cooling season.  Believe it or not, spring is right around the corner, and soon you’ll be switching the thermostat from heating to cooling.  As you might know from experience, winters can be harsh and can take a toll on buildings, from freezing pipes to compromising structural integrity.  Low temperatures, along with extended times below freezing, can also impact your air conditioning system.

How to Stay Cool

By following just a few simple steps for maintaining your HVAC system, you can learn how to best prepare your HVAC system for spring. Below is a checklist to guide you through several steps to take before you switch that wall thermostat.

Outdoor Inspection

  • Remove unit covers, coil blankets or lids from the outdoor unit.
  • Inspect outdoor unit panels to make sure they’re all in place.
  • Remove leaves or debris that has collected in the outdoor unit coils.
  • Repair or replace damaged or missing pipe insulation.

Indoor Inspection

  • Change your indoor air filters.
  • Check the indoor condensate drain lines.
  • Clean the supply vents and return grills.
  • Monitor your system to ensure it is working properly on startup and throughout the first day–Turn it off immediately if it isn’t working!
