Project Profile: New Concepts for Living Achievement Center
Whitman provided professional Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) engineering services for the 81,160 square foot New Concepts for Living Achievement Center in Paramus, New Jersey. The Center transformed a former Barnes & Noble bookstore into a premier day program facility for adults with developmental disabilities. Project owner Daniel Mihalinec, Director of Facilities, led the ambitious conversion that was completed in June 2024.
The project incorporated 19 individual workrooms and Activities of Daily Living rooms, providing real-life learning opportunities including PC labs, mock bedrooms, laundry facilities, a supermarket and training kitchen. Additional amenities include a full-service physical therapy suite, sensory rooms, medical services suite and administration area.
The centerpiece is a 5,500 square foot “Town Square” gathering area featuring RGB lighting, a 20-by-14 foot LED tile video wall, varying ceiling heights, and a 30-foot diameter skylight. Premium finishes throughout include Bentley carpeting, Level wallcovering, and VT industry structured lumber doors with automatic operation.
The facility serves hundreds of clients daily, impacting thousands of individuals and families throughout New Jersey.
