Location: Somerset, NJ

Whitman is a multi-discipline firm. We are currently seeking an Environmental Project Scientist with three (3) years of experience to join our environmental consulting team based out of the Somerset, New Jersey office. We are looking for an environmental professional looking to continue their career growth performing environmental field work and office activities supporting Whitman’s environmental project managers/LSRPs. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in environmental science and excellent analytical skills. This position will require working on multiple projects concurrently with demanding schedules. This requires the candidate to be self-motivated, independent, results-oriented and able to re-prioritize as required. This position provides the opportunity to learn and grow technical competency by receiving on-the-job related training under the supervision of environmental project managers and LSRPs working on a variety of projects.

Familiarity with the NJ Technical Requirements for Site Remediation and NJDEP Field Sampling Procedures Manual, as well as experience conducting soil/groundwater sampling and vapor intrusion sampling, is a must.  The candidate must have 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and necessary 8-hour refresher courses.

Responsibilities: 

  • Perform Phase I Environmental Site Assessment and/or NJDEP Preliminary Assessment due diligence projects, including site inspections and report preparation.
  • Organize, plan, conduct, and direct field assessments such as soil, groundwater, and/or vapor intrusion sampling and report preparation.
  • Report writing for various Remedial phase reports.
  • Self-perform QAQC of reports, tables, figures, etc.
  • Assist in preparing Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) and NJDEP forms.

Requirements: 

  • B.S. in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in technical writing with minimal review.
  • Working knowledge of ASTM Phase I Standards, All Appropriate Inquiry Rule, NJ Technical Requirements for Site Remediation, Administrative Requirements for Remediation of Contaminated Sites and Field Sampling Procedures Manual.
  • Demonstrates initiative and motivation for excellence, and is highly organized, with minimal supervision needed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel), Microsoft Teams, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience in CAD is a plus.
