Whitman’s Solar Services Division has more than 15 years of experience assisting clients with solar projects from concept through design. Our in-house engineers have performed complete design services for more than 1.5 GW of renewable energy systems located across the country.

Whitman has experience in various types of solar projects from roof tops, to car ports, ground mounts and landfills. Our clients range from small business owners and developers, to large utility scale customers. All of the professional services necessary for the design, permitting and field assessment of these systems are performed by Whitman’s in-house staff, allowing for more fluid communication, resulting in increased project design and cost efficiencies.

Carey Ruetsch
Senior Vice President of Renewable Services

Carey oversees Whitman’s Solar Division, and has managed the mechanical, structural and electrical engineering components of more than 1.5 GW of renewable projects throughout the United States. He has created relationships with small commercial contractors as well as large publicly traded solar developers. Carey is an FAA licensed drone operator for the company’s new Drone Services line, providing flights for roof conditions assessments, solar imaging, property investigations and aerial imagery.

Jeffrey Thoens, P.E., LEED A.P. BD+C
Director of Engineering
Jeff has over 20 years of experience in electrical engineering systems, including lighting design, power design, solar design, and medium voltage design. His project experience includes design and project management for ground mount, roof and carport photovoltaic design projects. Jeff is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in 13 states.

Kathy Kane
Technical Manager
Kathy is a seasoned electrical designer with over 33 years of valuable design experience. She has been the lead electrical designer for all aspects of countless solar projects from panel layout, string design and specifying appropriate specialized solar equipment. She has experience on both public and private projects for schools, libraries, fire houses, labs and offices.

Hayley Williams
Senior Electrical Engineer
Hayley has over 8 years of experience in the electrical engineering industry. She works closely with the team to prepare electrical drawings and specifications, as well as perform electrical code reviews, arc flash/coordination studies, and field surveys.
