It is with both joy and sadness that we announce the retirement of our esteemed founder, Dr. Ira Whitman, PhD, P.E., LSRP, effective August 31, 2025.
Since founding Whitman 40 years ago along with his wife Audrey in 1985, Ira was the visionary force behind the foundation of the company’s growth and success. His extraordinary passion and unwavering commitment helped shape the company into the well-known and highly respected organization that it is today. Whitman’s ongoing success is a testament to the solid values and forward-thinking vision established from the very beginning and continues to be carried out by our current leadership as they continue to grow the company and expand its service lines.
Throughout his distinguished career, Ira has exemplified excellence in the environmental industry. He is a recognized expert on site remediation, and has long been considered an authority in the industry on Brownfield site redevelopment. This includes having prepared numerous articles and presentations on the subject, and having lectured extensively on the restoration of urban properties. He has also served in an expert capacity on countless cases involving environmental compliance and litigation.
For many years Ira has served as a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in several states, as well as a Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) in New Jersey, and a Board Certified Environmental Engineer with the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists. In addition, he has served on both the New Jersey Site Remediation Professional Licensing Board and the Site Remediation Advisory Committee for over 15 years.
Ira received his B.C.E. in Civil Engineering from The Cooper Union; his M.S. from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn; and his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University.
