Overview

Whitman completed the fire protection, plumbing, mechanical and electrical design for the new Cosmetology Lab at the Bergen County Vocational High School in Paramus, New Jersey. The design included an extension of the building’s existing fire protection sprinkler system as well as the building’s existing hot and cold domestic water distribution. The mechanical systems for the area consisted of new rooftop air handlers, architecturally-pleasing exposed ductwork and rooftop exhaust fans. The electrical service to the area was upgraded in order to provide adequate power for all of the new room’s services. The new lighting for the area was coordinated with the owner and architect. The lighting consisted of architectural LED fixtures all controlled by a central lighting control system.

The Cosmetology Lab included a hairstyle lab area, hair and makeup skin care lab area, laundry area, two closed classrooms and a public salon. The new Cosmetology Lab serves as a showpiece for the school and allowed the Cosmetology Lab components to be consolidated into one new state of the art area. Previously, the different areas of Cosmetology were spread across several classrooms inside the building.
