Whitman has made a corporate commitment to sustainable design and building practices. We have also incorporated these practices into our work culture and encourage staff at all levels to support sustainable design through professional organizations and real life design applications.
Whitman is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and has Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accredited professionals on staff. Our engineers are experienced and knowledgeable in LEED principles and have been part of multiple design teams where LEED and sustainable design principles have been incorporated into project designs.
We do not approach sustainable design in a vacuum. At Whitman, we understand the need for building owners and developers to see a return on their investment. Costs are part of our evaluation. However, the run up of energy and commodity costs have made sustainable design options more attractive.
We have experience designing the following systems which provide positive cash flow and return on investment:
- Solar Roofs & Yards (photovoltaic)
- Ice Storage Chiller Systems
- Geothermal Heating and Cooling
- Day lighting and automatic lighting controls
Our engineers have experience evaluating and comparing traditional and sustainable designs side by side from both a technical and cost perspective. Under the right situation, sustainable designs can yield a cost positive result. Let us show you how.
