Pellettieri Homes

Trenton, New Jersey

Project at a Glance:

  • Major redevelopment project in historic section of Trenton, New Jersey.
  • Whitman worked with the developer to remediate the interior of the building.
  • Issues included soil contamination, lead-based paint, and asbestos.
  • The building has been completely redeveloped and is now a senior citizen residence.

Many environmental issues were involved in redeveloping the former Roebling Iron and Steel Works building. Whitman conducted extensive soil sampling and subsequent remediation in conjunction with:

  • The City of Trenton
  • The developer, Pennrose Properties
  • Other community groups, such as the Trenton Roebling Community Development Corporation

The site is now being used for non-profit senior citizen housing. As a result, this part of the Roebling area of Trenton is productive once again.

Whitman was instrumental in receiving regulatory approval for the cleanup of this property and seeing the project to completion.

Areas of concern included soil contamination, asbestos, and lead-based paint.

Actions taken include:

  • Soil remediation
  • Institutional controls
  • Engineering controls
